IMPORTANT NOTE: COVID-19 and Drinking Water
TDPUD drinking water is safe from Coronavirus (COVID-19). Truckee’s drinking water is a 100% groundwater from deep groundwater wells within the Martis Valley Groundwater Basin. Additionally, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) the COVID-19 virus has not been detected in drinking water. Conventional water treatment methods that use filtration and disinfection, such as those in most municipal drinking water systems, should remove or inactivate the virus that causes COVID-19. The normally utilized treatments already in place with the TDPUD drinking water distributions systems maintain a safe barrier from viruses, including COVID-19. Water Quality/Consumer Confidence Reports (CCR):
Note: As required by the California State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB), the formal reports are updated annually and are due by July 1st of the next year. For example, the upcoming 2021 report covers the most recent data available from 2021 and is due before July 1, 2022. Please note that not all constituents have a SWRCB mandated testing period ranging from weekly to every 3+ years and the most recent test date is listed in the CCR. Up to date water quality data is reported monthly to the SWRCB and available to the public (see SWRCB link below).

Questions about cloudy water
Customers may occasionally notice that the water coming from their taps appears opaque or cloudy. We want to assure customers that this is not a quality issue, and this water is perfectly safe to drink. Water looks like this when air mixes with water in the aquifer or pump column. For more information on cloudy water, visit our FAQ.
August is National Water Quality Month
August is National Water Quality Month. During a month when residents and visitors are enjoying our communities' local rivers and lakes, it’s a great time to draw attention to the importance of having clean water.
It’s also a good time to think about what comes out of your tap. Pure, clean drinking water is there at your command, but have you ever thought about where it comes from?
The Truckee Donner Public Utility District acquires its water from aquifers hundreds of feet deep all within the Truckee groundwater basin area. The water is transported to Truckee’s higher elevations through a series of pump stations and is stored in water tanks strategically placed throughout the community. There are approximately 13,750 water customers served by the District.
Truckee water is pure and of a higher quality than most bottled drinking water. The TDPUD’s water system has been elaborately designed with pump stations and storage reservoirs at different elevations to maintain high pressure for fighting urban fires and for all domestic water uses.
Protecting drinking water sources from contamination not only protects your drinking water but also protects the environment and saves money and energy. And it’s something we can all do. CLICK HERE to find out how community members can help.
