Truckee Donner Public Utility District (District) has been awarded a Diamond Level Reliable Public Power Provider designation by the American Public Power Association (APPA). The District received a Gold Level RP3 designation in 2015, a Platinum Level designation in 2018, and now a Diamond Level designation for 2021. A Diamond Level is APPA's highest award level, reflecting the District's sound business practices and community-wide commitment to safe and reliable delivery of electricity.
“We couldn’t be prouder to be honored with this designation which is the culmination of a lot of hard work from our dedicated staff from every department who really care about powering our community,” said Joe Horvath, TDPUD electric utility director and assistant general manager. “But this designation is not a final destination, we are committed to continuous improvement with operations and service to our community.”
The RP3 designation lasts for a three year period and then you must re-apply. The intent of the re-application process is to ensure RP3 utilities are continually aiming to improve the quality of their system. APPA recognizes public power utilities that demonstrate proficiency in four key areas: reliability, safety, workforce development, and system improvement. They are the national organization representing more than 2,000 not-for-profit community- and- state- owned electric utilities. The District joins more than 275 public power utilities nationwide that hold one of these levels of designation, Gold, Platinum, or Diamond.
