Telecommunication & Wireless Facilities

For Small Cell-Wireless Communication Facilities

1 - Horse Butte 4_708x186

The Truckee Donner Public Utility District has the ability to partner with telecommunication and wireless facilities to offer services to the public.

Small Wireless Communication Facilities are a type of wireless infrastructure. They are the antennas, support structures (towers), connection cables, and other equipment necessary for providing personal wireless services and information services. They transmit and/or receive electromagnetic signals. Existing wireless facilities are large antennas placed high above the ground that service a wide area (referred to as "macrocells"). The small wireless antennae provide spot coverage to a relatively small area - each small wireless antenna services hundreds of feet whereas traditional macrocell sites cover square miles. While these are an important part of communications infrastructure and networks, they are the most visible. Careful planning of WCF is essential to ensuring aesthetic compatibility with surrounding neighborhoods.
