Electric Department

The Electric Department is responsible for operating, maintaining, repairing, and expanding our electric distribution system.  The department has a responsibility to provide operations, maintenance, and replacement programs which are safe, effective, and efficient.

To serve customers, the District purchases energy through contracts with entities outside Truckee.  This energy comes from a variety of generation resources and is delivered to the District’s four substations via NV Energy’s transmission lines.   From these substations, energy is distributed to customers in neighborhoods within the Town of Truckee and Nevada County, including the western portion of Glenshire, through 16 individual circuits.  Liberty Energy and Pacific Gas and Electric serve the surrounding areas.

Currently, the District serves approximately 14,300 customers within the service territory.  All customers are charged based on metered energy usage and medium to large commercial customers are also charged for peak monthly demand.
