TDPUD will be holding induction cooking workshops this summer, to give customers interested in purchasing an induction stovetop a hands-on opportunity to test out the equipment.

Induction cooking is a type of electric cooking method that many are considering when making the switch to electric kitchen appliances. Participants in the workshop will get to cook a full meal on portable induction cooktops, following a cooking demonstration led by TDPUD staff. The class will learn how to make a delicious meal of curried chickpeas with spinach served over basmati rice (vegetarian, gluten free, dairy free), as well as ask questions about induction cooking and other ways to electrify your home.

TDPUD will hold four Induction Cooking Workshops this summer:

>July 16 @ The Lift Workspace, 5:30-7pm

>July 16 @ The Lift Workspace, 7:30-9pm

>August 13 @ Glenshire Devonshire Clubhouse, 5:30-7pm

>August 20 @ Steve Randall Community Recreation Center, 5:30-7pm

Why Make the Switch to Induction?

What is induction cooking?

Induction cooking uses electromagnetic copper coils to transmit electricity to a specialty pan made of magnetic metals. This creates an electromagnetic field of energy that elevates temperature without producing any actual heat.

What are some of the advantages of induction cooking?

Safety: since there is no open flame or heat needed to cook, induction cooking removes the danger of burning yourself on the stove, as well as carbon monoxide or gas leak issues that can arise from gas stoves. Induction cooktops also require less ventilation than traditional stoves.

Fast Heating/Cooling: Induction stovetops are known for how fast they heat up, even boiling water in significantly less time than an electric or gas stove. Those same properties mean the pan also cools down way faster than a traditional stove.

Easy to Clean: Induction stovetops have a smooth, glass-ceramic surface and only get hot directly under the pan, so cleaning drips and splatters is easier, since they don’t adhere to the surface.

Air Quality: Gas stoves emit harmful pollutants that can affect the air quality in your home and have detrimental health effects, like causing or worsening respiratory illnesses. Induction cooktops do not emit those pollutants.

Reduce your Carbon Footprint: Gas appliances emit greenhouse gases and are responsible for much of the carbon footprint of your home. Replacing gas appliances with electric ones will reduce your impact on the environment.
