Remind Drivers to Keep Our Workers Safe
Truckee, Calif. (June 29, 2017) – The Truckee Sanitary District (TSD), Truckee Donner Public Utility District (TDPUD), and Town of Truckee are busy repairing streets and utility infrastructure damaged from this winter’s historic storms along with doing routine maintenance. This means that our crews will be in the streets and setting up traffic controls to separate cars from our work sites. Please slow down and help keep everyone safe.
“Things get very busy every summer as we all work hard to complete as much work as possible before the next winter,” said Blake Tresan, TSD general manager. “Our crews do everything that they can do to maintain a safe work environment but we need drivers’ help when we are working in a street.”
Here are some simple actions that drivers can take to save a workers life.
- Slow down and drive with caution
- Be alert and avoid distractions
- Assume that there is a worker behind every cone you see
“Field crews are critical to maintaining system performance and reliability” said Michael Holley, TDPUD general manager. “They are important members of our community and we need to keep them safe.”
Your local agency crews are dedicated to serving the needs of Truckee residents and visitors. Please help keep them safe by slowing down, keeping your attention on the road, and showing respect for roadside workers.
“Everyone knows that there is increased traffic and road congestion in the summer,” said Rob Leftwich, Truckee chief of police. “We are reminding everyone to slow down and be safe. The law is very specific about construction zones and we would prefer everyone, just have patience and avoid a potentially tragic situation.”
“Road maintenance personnel are exposed to the possibility of serious injury, or worse, on a daily basis in their efforts to maintain the communities’ infrastructure” said Dan Wilkins, Truckee’s Public Works Director. “If drivers are cautious and courteous in work zones, it goes a long ways towards reducing that exposure.”
